Sterling Cemetery
Greenport, New York
40.116530, -72.360004
This still active cemetery was opened in 1757, and now is home to nearly 4,000 interments. It's colonial section is the resting place of members of the Moore and Youngs family, among others.
The colonial section of Stirling Cemetery dates to 1757, and is located in the western corner of the cemetery closest to Main Road (25) in Greenport. It is only a small portion of the overall cemetery. The headstones found here are most likely imported from New England, with several in the distinctive style of John Steven's shop in Newport Rhode Island. More research on these stones and the people they commemorate is needed.
