North End Burying Ground
Southampton, New York

A historic burial ground established in 1712 by the first settlers of Southampton, this cemetery was created as the Old Burying Ground on the other side of town began to reach capacity.
The North End Burying Ground is a fixture close to the center of Southampton Village. Many of the earliest headstones have been lost or degraded, but there are still many examples of colonial craftsmanship to be found in the cemetery. There are stones imported both from the New England area, and from New York City and New Jersey, whose iconography makes them distinctive and identifiable. The cemetery was in use from the 18th to the 20th century. It was surveyed by the Daughters of the Revolution between 1930 and 1934, and mapped in 2006 by the University of Pennsylvania.
