Capt. Nathan Dayton, 1773.
North End Cemetery,
East Hampton, New York
Ebenezer Price was a stone carver from Elizabeth, New Jersey. His headstones are usually characterized by solemn soul effigies, or floral tympanums that include tulips. Price's shop was prolific in New Jersey, with particularly intricate examples of his work surviving in the churchyard as First Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Price himself is buried in this churchyard as well. The map below includes the cemeteries where I have personally found examples of his work, the furthest of which so far can be found in East Hampton, New York.
Catharine Thane, 1771.
First Presbyterian Church, Elizabeth, New Jersey
Price would mark many of his stones with his name or initials.
Ebenezer Price, 1788. First Presbyterian Church, Elizabeth, New Jersey. Price's own headstone is typical of his style of carving.
